Need a little spice with your sugar this holiday?

Rudy Snowden has been pining for Graham Miller since they were teenagers, but being a shape-shifter and in love with a human isn't easy. After years of dancing around each other, Rudy decides to take the big leap and ask the guy on a date.

Truck driver Graham Miller is glad to be home for Christmas in Alaska. Road weary and suffering from the holiday blues, Rudy Snowden is the perfect pick me up—if Graham can summon the courage to ask him out. While picking up a Christmas tree from Rudy, Graham is unable to find the words, and leaves without the man he's wanted for so long. Lost in a snowstorm sprinkled with misery, Graham hits a caribou—could his day get any worse? He rushes the animal to the Snowden vet clinic, where he quickly learns things can always get... stranger. The creature he nearly killed isn't just any animal, and the Snowdens aren't a normal family. With his secret finally revealed, Rudy makes his move. But can Graham accept Rudy's inhuman nature and be the life-mate he wants?

Graham Ran Over A Reindeer Gay Holiday Romance edition by sterling rivers Romance eBooks

Christmas stories are good for a pick-me-up all year round. I could celebrate Christmas any month of the year quite happily, but that's me. Sterling Rivers did a really good job capturing the magic of winter in Alaska with Graham Ran Over a Reindeer. The whole piece is a really cute read which is good for more than a few smiles.

Both main characters -Graham and Rudy- are well-defined with unique personalities which make them easy to love. Graham is a family man who helps take care of his sister's kids to the point he's even picking up their Christmas tree from Rudy's family farm. Rudy is all smiles and sweetness who only wants to relish being able to shift into his other form of a caribou for a run in the snowy landscape when Graham hits him with his truck.

In Graham's defense, Rudy really shouldn't have been running across the road! The guy isn't an actual animal, right? He should have thought "Hey, those bright lights coming my way might be an automobile!" I'm just saying.

The plot is straight forward. It's a true mate story where shifters mate for life. The mythology of Rudy's "Elementir" people is unique to this world by Sterling Rivers; I enjoyed the descriptions and details given for this shifter design. I loved the happy-ever-after as it was presented at the end.

Overall I'd have rated this one higher if it'd been edited better. There are a lot of grammar mistakes, typos, tense shifts, and some phrases which were very heavy on the cheese factor. It's a fun read for a holiday story, but it's not one I'd pick up any time of the year to help me grasp on to the magic of Christmas.

What a wonderful short story. Really like the story and highly recommend it. Xmas story. Rudy and Graham are wonderful characters.
I loved it I have never read one like this before and I enjoyed it not too long and it certainly held my attention and I couldn't wait to read more. Great stuff short and sweet.
Cute holiday story, featuring an equal mix of fluff and angst. Some editing issues, but nothing major. An overall light, pleasant read with enough spice to warm up a cold winter day.
Great title, but it threw me off at first!! A reindeer? Well it was interesting, and I like shifter stories. This was a pretty good first for me from this author!! Good job!
Cute story with a cool conceptualization of shifters. It was also nice to see a non-typical shifter breed. I was a little skeptical at how quickly Graham got to thinking of them as life partners considering that they were separated so long. I was much more accepting of it in Rudy since it's a typical element of shifter stories--an innate sense of who their mate is. Except for that I enjoyed the story as a low angst HEA. While I did see some editing issues I thought they were minor (some others have indicated huge problems which I didn't feel to be the case). I would definitely pick up more this author's books.
Rating 3.5
Sweet story. 4.5 Interesting new take on shifter lore. The author did a great job building up the angst and working through it from both character views. The interaction between Rudy and Graham was fun to read. I especially liked the interaction from both families. There were some shifter questions unanswered but I let it slide. A few editing concerns but they didn't take away from the story. The cover art was nice but I would have like a pic of a caribou.
Pleasant little tale. Graham and Rudy used to be great friends, and secretly in love with each other. Then Rudy left town for years. Now they're both in town and they want to ask each other out, but neither makes the first move.
Graham hits a reindeer with his truck. It's Rudy, the caribou shifter.
Graham has to deal with the shifter thing, and they both deal with their love for each other and the possibility of a future.
Pleasant read. You're not going to tax yourself very hard thinking about it, as you know pretty much what is going to happen.
As for the Holiday part of "Holiday Read", well, there is a Christmas tree farm and they share Christmas. I wouldn't necessarily say it was a Christmas story.
